Why should I choose PAWSitive Strides?

We are a team of pet sitters. This means that you have someone available to you at all times, even if you have a last-minute emergency. Also, if a sitter becomes ill or has an emergency, the care of your pets is not interrupted, as we have a back-up that knows your pet and its routines. All of our sitters are insured and bonded and have considerable experience in the pet care field. Some work with animal rescue, some are animal trainers (even dolphin trainers!), some are groomers, vet techs, and so on. Our sitters love animals and our clients love our sitters and the great flexibility our service offers!

Do you take “last-minute” reservations?

Yes, if you are a current client, and we already have all of your forms on file, and you are registered on our scheduling software. We will make every effort to accommodate you if time permits. Because we are a TEAM of pet sitters, we are usually able to take any last-minute requests from our existing clients.

We will also make every effort to accommodate last-minute NEW clients, depending on the time and resources available. Additional Charges May Be Applied. Please keep in mind that we do need to meet with you BEFORE services begin so that we can get acquainted with your pet(s) and routines, as well as fill out pertinent paperwork.

What will PAWSitive Strides do during visits with my pets?

We follow your routines with your furry babies as closely as possible. This helps to minimize the stress of your absence. Your pets are in their familiar environment and really enjoy the visits. We find that many of them wait for us by the door, as they get to know the time of day we are coming. Many clients have mentioned that their pets will continue to wait for us by the door a couple of days after our visits.

During our visits we provide your pets with fresh water, food, lots of love and attention, play time, walking (if needed). We can also alternate lights, open/close blinds, pick up mail, take out trash, etc. in order to make it look as though someone is home. Your babies are OUR babies while you are away. We love our adoptive furry children.

Who are the sitters? Can I trust them?

We are proud to have an outstanding team of pet sitters! Our sitters continuously demonstrate their devotion to animals. Some work with animal rescue, dog grooming, are veterinary technicians, or even animal trainers. Most of our sitters also have their own pets. All sitters must pass a criminal background check and are all covered under our commercial liability insurance and bonding policies. Please see our Meet Our Team page for sitter bios.

Are sitters monitored?

We perform periodic, unannounced, quality control checks on all pet sitters to ensure that our clients’ requests are being adhered to and that our exceptional quality of service is maintained. Our goal is always to provide our clients with peace of mind and outstanding service. We also routinely request feedback from our clients to ensure that their needs are being met.

Will a PAWSitive Strides sitter take my pets to their home or come visit them in mine?

We come to you. This way your pets are able to stay where they are comfortable; in their usual surroundings. Many of our clients have commented on the difference it makes on their pets’ demeanor and happiness to stay home, in a familiar environment.

Is PAWSitive Strides ever available for times other than when I go on vacation?

Absolutely, we provide services such as walking your dog or checking on an old or ill pet while you’re at work, taking your puppy out for a potty break while you are working on potty training, taking your pets to grooming and veterinary appointments, and more. Just ask and we will be happy to help!

When I go out of town how many times per day should PAWSitive Strides visit my pets?

For dogs, we recommend at least two visits per day. For indoor dogs, three times a day would be best. For the safety of your cat, we require at least one visit per day, although some clients prefer to have us come in twice per day.

How long will the PAWSitive Strides visit with my pets?

We offer many different types and lengths of visits to accommodate your needs. Please visit our Services/Rates page for more information.

What time will you visit my pets?

Because of the unpredictability of pets, traffic, and other things, we ask our clients for their preferred time, as well as a 2-3 hour time window for each visit. We cannot guarantee a specific time for visits, although we always strive to arrive at our client’s preferred time. The exception to this time window is for animals that have time-sensitive medication issues and special needs or puppies that are still working on potty training. We do not necessarily end a visit simply because the allotted time for that visit is up. We leave only when the pets’ needs have been met. This can often cause us to run behind schedule, but we know that our clients appreciate our thorough attentiveness to their babies.

How much does a visit cost?

Please see our Services/Rates page for a list of our different visits and rates. Our prices are based on the number of visits scheduled, number and types of pets cared for, the services provided and the distance traveled. The final price quote will be determined at the initial consultation.

If my pet becomes ill while I’m away, how will that be handled?

We like to be prepared for any emergencies that might arise. We ask you for emergency contact numbers when you sign up for our services. We also keep a Vet Release Form on file with vet information and authorization to take your pet(s) if the need arises. We will contact you first if we notice anything unusual in your pet’s demeanor.

What if the pet sitter has an emergency and can’t get to my pets?

We are a team of pet sitters specifically for that reason. If a sitter is ill, we have a backup that will have access to all notes and information on the care of your pet and will be able to step in to ensure that your pet’s care is not interrupted and no undue stress is caused.

If I’m going to be gone during a holiday, will a pet sitter still care for my pets?

Yes, we work 365 days per year to ensure the best care for your pet. Please be aware that the holiday times are very busy for us and book with as much notice as possible. We also charge a holiday rate during the 4-day weekend of Thanksgiving, the week of Christmas, and the week of New Year’s. This extra pay is an additional incentive for our hardworking sitters who are forgoing spending time with their family and pets in order to make sure that your pets are loved while you are away.

Should I call before I leave to confirm my trip?

You are welcome to call or e-mail to confirm your trip before departure. We send you a confirmation e-mail with the dates and times you have requested for our services when you first schedule visits in our system as well as the week of your departure. If you do NOT receive an e-mail, we ask that you contact us to make sure you are in the system for those visits.

How much notice do you need for a pet sitting cancellation?

We know that schedules change, many times at the last minute, so we always try to accommodate our clients. Our job is to make your life easier. Since many of our clients are doctors and nurses whose schedules can change at the last minute, we are flexible with cancellations for midday services. As long as the cancellation is done by 9:30AM the day that we are scheduled for a midday service, we will not charge for the service.

For pet sitting, we have to reserve your spot on our calendar and may turn away other clients if we are booked. Because of this, PAWSitive Strides requires a full two-day notice of cancellation prior to the date of the first visit. Failure to provide notice in less than two days will result in a $30.00 cancellation fee payable by the pet owner.

Holiday Cancellations: With the exception of severe weather, life-threatening emergencies or a death in the family, any pet sitting cancellations prior to a major holiday, ie: Christmas, New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Thanksgiving with less than a four-day notice will result in 50% of the total invoice for scheduled pet care to be paid. We request your understanding that Holiday travel is a peak service time for pet care.

What if my property or pet is damaged while I am gone?

PAWSitive Strides agrees to provide the services stated in our service agreement in a reliable, caring and trustworthy manner, and we are insured to provide you peace of mind. However, we are only liable for claims arising from negligence or willful misconduct on our part. Due to the extreme unpredictability of animals, we cannot accept responsibility for pet-caused mishaps (i.e., bites, furniture damage, spills, pet stains, etc.). Additionally, if your pets have access to the outside, we are NOT responsible for injury, disappearance, or fines.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the start of our services. All balances must be paid in full at or before the first visit or we have the right to refuse service. For your convenience, we accept all major credit cards. Please no cash or checks.

Can we contact you while we are away? Or will you contact us?

We know our clients worry about their pets while they are away and love to know how they are doing. With that in mind, as part of our service we provide our clients with a daily e-mail, text message, or phone call. You can select your preferred manner of contact when you register online on our scheduling system. Clients are also welcome to call, text, or e-mail any time for some extra updates, if they are missing their babies. We enjoy providing you with the peace of mind of knowing that your pets are well and happy while you are away!

May I offer a gratuity to my pet sitter?

Absolutely! You may offer it directly to your sitter or send it to PAWSitive Strides. 100% of gratuities go to your pet sitter.

Is it OK for my neighbor or relative to check-in also on my pets while I am away?

If other people are allowed access to the house, PAWSitive Strides cannot be held responsible for insuring the security of the premises; our insurance covers only those who work with us.

Are gift certificates available?

We do offer gift certificates. They make great gifts for anyone in our service area with a furry baby! 🙂
